The ASUS P8Z77-V LX motherboard supports LGA 1155 for third-generation Intel core platforms including the i7, i5, i3, and Celeron processors. The memory, iGPU, and PCI Express controllers are designed to support onboard graphics output when used with dedicated chipsets, two-channel DDR3 memory and 16 PCI Express 3.0/2.0 lanes. This allows the P8Z77-V motherboard to support high graphics performance while maintaining an energy-efficient CPU design. The Intel Z77 Express Chipset provides increased bandwidth and stability for greater performance through the use of serial point-to-point links. The four included USB 3.0 ports provide data retrieval rates up to 10 times faster than previous incarnations, though additional USB 2.0 ports are also provided. Experience increased speed through the P8Z77-V when used with the minimum 18.6 GB SSD for caching of frequently used data and applications. This reduces wait times by lowering the load and keeping key information available. It also provides for a more efficient use of power by eliminating hard drive spin in some circumstances. This can also keep the amount of heat generated by the system lower, making cooling processes more effective. The included Intel Smart Connect Technology on the P8Z77-V motherboard provides you the option to keep specific application data fresh even when the system is in sleep mode. This means less waiting, as you do not have to manually refresh the content as often. The Intel Rapid Start Technology also increases productivity by allowing you to quickly resume your activities after the system has been placed in low-power or hibernation mode. Energy use remains low while achieving faster wake-up times. Asus equipped the P8Z77-V with the first graphical BIOS designed to work with mouse-based controls. This creates a more user-friendly design than previous keyboard-driven BIOS options. EZ-mode provides access to frequently retrieved data, and boot priority can be rearranged with a simple drag-and-drop method. The BIOS can be updated through the Advanced Mode section in the BIOS GUI, and overclocking options can be found under the AI Tweaker tab. Temperature and voltage readings are also available under the Monitor tab. The four RAM slots support up to 32 GB of DDR3 memory, but the full 32 GB is not required. There are two PCI Express x16 slots, and one of the two slots supports PCIe 3.0. This provides a standard connection for a graphics card for performance increases beyond the addition of RAM, and the integrated graphics available from the motherboard itself, which is often desired when building a computer for the purpose of high-graphics gaming. Additionally, the motherboard includes two PCI Express x1 slots as well as three legacy PCI slots. The P8Z77-V motherboard supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. The rear panel of the P8Z77-V supports keyboards, mice, DVI, D-Sub, HDMI, LAN, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Optical S/PDIF out, and audio out. The board’s total size is 12 by 8.6 inches, making it comparable to similar technologies in regard to physical area. The included Intel Z77 chipset is considered relatively complex based on the number of overclocking features available, as well as the option to add multiple graphics cards for increased gaming performance.
