The 970A-G46 AMD motherboard features NVIDIA’s SLI, allowing you to run up to four SLI-ready NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards as well as AMD’s CrossFireX, which supports up to four AMD Radeon HD graphics cards. The power of running four high-end graphics cards speaks for itself – you can play visually intense games at the highest screen resolutions with all the settings topped out – but there’s more. Multiple graphics cards allow you to run up to three monitors simultaneously, drive games with 4K resolution, and run your computer at the highest frame rate. The MSI 970A-G46 AMD motherboard supports several AMD CPUs, including those from the eight-core AMD FX series. AMD FX CPUs let you overclock the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) memory, resulting in higher bandwidth and higher frame rates – no more lag time! AMD FX CPUs come with up to 32GB of memory, but you have more choices. Other AMD CPUs compatible with the MSI 970A-G46 AMD motherboard include those from the following series: Opteron 330gaming0, Sempron, Sempron X2, Phenom II X2, Phenom II X3, Phenom II X4, Phenom II X6, Athlon II, Athlon II X2, Athlon II X3, Athlon II X4. An AMD 970 (northbridge) and SB950 (southbridge) make up the 970A-G46 AMD motherboard’s core logic chipset. The AMD 970, which features AMD’s HyperTransport technology increases communication speed between integrated circuits, hard drives, embedded systems, servers and networking and telecommunications hardware by up to 48 percent. The chipset has DDR3 SDRAM operates a third-generation SATA interface that supports six ports for operating next generation high-speed data storage devices at a rate of 6GB/s. In addition to supporting 12 USB 2.0 ports, the 970A-G46 AMD motherboard supports two USB 3.0 ports. The USB 3.0 transfers data at a rate of 5GB/s, whereas USB 2.0 works at a rate of 480mbps, allowing you to transfer a Blu-Ray movie in under one minute. The motherboard also features MSI’s OC Genie II, which automatically overclocks and "hidden" CPU cores in about one second, resulting in a 248 percent system boost.
