I socket-modded a Model 1 Sega Genesis that uses a VA6.5 revision board back in 2020 and the CPU was the last IC to be changed to a CMOS variant. Motorola HCMOS variants don't actually work with the console, but Hitachi HCMOS variants do. Replaced the original Motorola HMOS CPU with this and also removed the 220 ohm resistor (trace wasn't originally cut on the board) and the system is stable. Unit runs cooler as well, of course.
