NotesAlexander Mitchell is an acoustic multi-instrumentalist who plays fiddle, mandolin, guitar and also sings. This CD is a culmination of a music career that spans over 25 years of countless gigs in diverse styles of music and locales. Alexander started playing fiddle in 1978 after hearing bluegrass music. Since then he has been cultivating such diverse styles as appalachian, bluegrass, celtic, klezmer, traditional roots dance music, ballroom, hot swing and jazz. Chameleon is an eclectic compilation of traditional and modern unplugged roots music, from sizzling mountain music to refined tangos, hot swing and ragtime. Alexander sings four vocal numbers on the CD as well as playing percussion and strings. The recording is propelled by Ralph Gordon's expressive and deep-groove bass, Paul Oorts' tasteful and nimble mandolin work and Dave Weisler's facile and brilliant piano playing. Alexander has done a national tour with the Missouri Repertory Theatre, appeared in Ted Turner's movie ' Gettysburg 'as well as performing for the soundtrack, and numerous other stage and theatrical productions. Locally he has played the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center, Lisner Auditorium for the 'Revels', the Birchmere and hundreds of other performances for restaurants, dances, wine tastings, weddings, small company picnics and corporate affairs. Alexander teaches fiddle and mandolin at Boe's Strings on N. Market St., in Frederick, MD. Alexander is also available to hire for private events of all sorts.
