Instructions clearly state that these will break if you're not careful enough. That being said, I broke a single tab on two of the four plastic pieces by simply inserting the metal tabs into the plastic. Not happy about it at all but the caps still hold in place with the tabs that are left. Trial and error but still happy with them.

So I used a side cutter/wire cutter to squeeze the flared sides of the flattened rivet into the center of the hole and was able to push the rivets out.. I also did not cut any leather, I just put the brackets on and pushed the handle and brackets together, the screws work fine and when installing on the car, it was just fine, the silver caps just need to be lined up they fit further in than it looks like they should but they
