The Intel Xeon E5462 (EU80574KL072N) is a CPU offering professional-level speed and performance. It has four cores, clocked at 2.8gHz, for computing power and advanced multitasking. The Intel Xeon E5462 chip is ideal for workstations, desktop PCs, and some servers. The Intel Xeon E5462 is suitable for systems containing motherboards with the LGA771 Intel socket. It is also good for multi-CPU boards, in which two Intel Xeon E5462s could collaborate for increased server performance and workload handling. The Intel Xeon E5462 2.8GHz CPU is a 64-bit processor, compatible with Windows 7 and upwards. The Intel Xeon E5462 CPU has been designed with server-level performance and capabilities in mind. It is a quad-core processor, rated at 2.8GHz. Each core delivers a thread that works in parallel with the thread of the next core. This allows the Intel Xeon E5462 operate with eight cores, which may increase its multitasking abilities in comparison with previous-generation Xeon processors. The cache specifications have also been improved in the Intel Xeon E5462. The Level 1 cache size of the Intel Xeon E5462 2.8GHz processor is 32KB. However, this capacity jumps to 12MB for the CPU’s Level 2 cache. The CPU interfaces with the memory controller at a speed of 1600Mhz. The Intel Xeon E5462 also offers front-side bus parity, which protects against errors in the information sent to this interface. The Xeon E5462 2.8GHz CPU also handles virtual memory-related tasks, using Intel Virtualization Technology. This development accelerates virtual memory through Second Level Address Translation (or extended page tables) while conserving the system’s battery life. The Intel Xeon E5462 also has an enhanced thermal design power rating of 80W, meaning that it may use less power in comparison with older chipsets. However, the processor has a voltage regulator that limits the power the CPU can use, at any one instant, to 1.35V. Intel’s Demand-Based Switching also controls the voltage acting on the chip, in accordance with the load on the processor. These adaptations help avoid CPU overheating and failure due to surges in energy consumption. Intel’s Thermal Monitoring Technology also uses the 2.8GHz Xeon E5462’s inbuilt thermal sensor for further prevention against overheating. It is most closely compatible with 5000- and 5400-series Intel memory controllers, the Intel S5400SF Server Board and with Intel’s SR1560SFHS, SR1530HCLR, SR1560SF, or SR1530CLR Server Systems. The Intel Xeon E5462 is a 2.8GHz quad-core processor mainly intended for high-performance desktop PCs and servers. The architecture of this 45nm processor may enable it to react quickly to changes in computing requirements and to switch up the processing and operational power it can access, so as to meet the demands of any given situation. The 2.8GHz Intel Xeon E5462 is compatible with motherboards incorporating one or two LGA771 socket(s). The Intel Xeon E5462 specifications make it suitable for servers in need of power-efficient, yet high-capacity day-to-day performance.
