I guess I wasn't crazy after figuring out that there was an "LL" version of this ribbon cable that had the initials "SSS4" (magnification needed) on it which is the Japanese ribbon cable that is not compatible with the US motherboard. This is an exact, authentic US rep/part for my New 3DS XL I've been looking for and I could tell by the yellow; the first replacement I originally bought was colored pale khaki, not the US version.

Smaller box or more packaging (newspaper/bubble wrap) should be used so item doesn’t bang around. Thankfully the display wasn’t damaged, but could have easily been.
