"In a very fine, appealing, and self-contained book with a wealth of illustrative examples, Stirzaker...superbly and informally presents with great clarity and accuracy various difficult concepts and techniques without invoking the rigor of mathematics...An excellent book, highly recommended." Synopsis
A simple, concise and accessible introduction to probability theory. Examples and exercises explore real life problems in areas including science, medicine, and gaming. Assuming minimal prior technical knowledge, it is suitable for students taking introductory courses, those needing a working knowledge of probability and other interested readers., This concise introduction to probability theory is written in an informal, tutorial style with concepts and techniques defined and developed as necessary. After an elementary discussion of chance, Stirzaker sets out the central and crucial rules and ideas of probability including independence and conditioning. Counting, combinatorics, and the ideas of probability distributions and densities follow. Later chapters present random variables and examine independence, conditioning, covariance, and functions of random variables, both discrete and continuous. The final chapter considers generating functions and applies this concept to practical problems including branching processes, random walks, and the central limit theorem. Examples, demonstrations, and exercises are used throughout to explore the ways in which probability is motivated by, and applied to, real life problems in science, medicine, gaming and other subjects of interest. Essential proofs of important results are included. Assuming minimal prior technical knowledge on the part of the reader, this book is suitable for students taking introductory courses in probability and will provide a solid foundation for more advanced courses in probability and statistics. It is also a valuable reference to those needing a working knowledge of probability theory and will appeal to anyone interested in this endlessly fascinating and entertaining subject., This is a simple and concise introduction to probability theory. Purchased and quickly cancelled order. The seller monitors messages and cancelled the order before it shipped with a full refund. Honest seller, good prices, and excellent customer service. I would reconsider purchasing from this seller. A++

Unfortunately the book I received was in bad shape and was a different edition than was shown in the listing, however, my experience with the seller was excellent! I reached out requesting a refund and very quickly received a very professional and friendly reply and an immediate refund. Based on this experience I would recommend buying from this seller!

My idea of “good” may have differed from the seller’s, but that’s on me, not them! I got exactly what was advertised and it does meet my needs, so I got value for my money. The seller reached out to me to make sure that I was good with my purchase. They offered a couple of solutions to make it right for me and promptly carried out what we agreed on. They didn’t ask me for a quid pro quo arrangement, they just wanted to ensure that I was happy. I’d definitely do business with them again!
