By defeating the French on 16th March England won the 1991 International Rugby Championship outright to become the leading European challengers for the 1991 World Cup. This success began when the English team beat Wales in Cardiff, and contined through to beating Scotland and Ireland to win the Triple Crown and ending with their victory over France to win the Grad Slam. This book examines the development of English rugby since the war, the changes in the game since the first World Cup in 1987 and the captaincy of Will Carling - one of the youngest captains ever appointed - who lead a team featuring Brian Moore, Paul Ackford, Wade Dooley, Dean Richards, Hill, Andrew and Simon Hodgkinson.
