It was definitely needed since the box had a hole punched through the box on one side, with the opposite side having a small "punched in" hole as well. I was worried when I saw the box, but your great packaging saved the day!! The snowglobe is in perfect condition, as described. My daughter, a music professor and performer, will love it!
