This collection of five cheesy and proudly exploitative sub-B movies brings together some of the best yet least known low-budget serial-killer flicks of the 1960s, '70s and '80s. James Landis's THE SADIST (1963) features Arch Hall, Jr., as a psychopath with a murderous hatred of schoolteachers; THE KILLING HAND (1973) stars John Savage as a rapist tormented by his past, with an increasingly insane need for revenge and bloodshed. HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY (1981) comes from Italian master of splatter Lucio Fulci and tells of an old mansion that comes with an ancient, monstrous serial killer in the basement. The cellar isn't a nice place in DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT (1973), either, as sick and bloodthirsty inmates take over their creepy mental institute. Finally, the terrifying SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT (1973) features an escaped psychopath terrorizing the residents of a small community and lurking in, yes, a large old house on the edge of town. Taken together, these sick, bloody, and frightening movies make up an exciting and rare collection--but one that should not be watched alone, in an old mansion, or anywhere near a basement.
