Synopsis
This 2002 book is a comprehensive analysis of the forces of the Spanish left - interpreted broadly - during the civil war of 1936-9. It assesses the impact of the war on Republican society and the domestic and international causes of the Republic's defeat., This 2002 book is a comprehensive analysis of the forces of the Spanish left - interpreted broadly - during the civil war of 1936-9, and the first of its kind for more than thirty years. It argues two crucial propositions. First, that the wartime responses (and limitations) of the Spanish left - republicans, socialists, communists and anarcho-syndicalists - can be understood only in relation to their pre-war experiences, world views, organisational structures and the wider Spanish context of acute uneven development which had moulded their organisations over previous decades. Second, that the overarching influence that shaped the evolution of the Republic between 1936 and 1939 was the war itself: the book explores the complex, cumulative effects of a civil war fought under the brutally destabilising conditions of an international arms embargo., This new analysis of the forces of the Spanish Leftist movement during the Civil War of 1936-9 makes two crucial propositions. It claims that the wartime responses and limitations of the movement can be understood only in relationship to its pre-war experiences, world views, organizational structures and the wider cultural context. It also asserts that the most significant influence on the evolution of the Republic between 1936 and 1939 was the war itself.

The books shipped fast and arrived in great condition. The packaging was very nice and neat, and easy to get into. The books were well insulated by the stuffing of the package (packing paper rolled up along the insides.) The books were just as described and pictured, so no problems there. I definitely got my money's worth on this order for sure & would definitely order from this seller again. I'll be keeping them in mind the next time I need such an old specialty book (awesome to get it bundled)

Though I haven't had a chance to look through all the volumes that came in this order, they appear to be in excellent condition and look very good. I'm really pleased that the seller (Tom the Book Guy) got my shipment in the mail promptly and sent the box by Ground Advantage so they arrived in only two days. I'm also pleased that these books were priced so reasonably. They are all high-quality academic books and I'm sure I will enjoy them in the weeks ahead. Thanks for such a smooth transaction!
