Additional informationStrangely enough, the third volume in the We Can Fly compilation series tops the second and, in some ways, even the first. There is a wider diversity of material here, a serious concentration on psychedelia itself. There are also some gems that prey on listeners' collective sense of nostalgia. For starters, there's a Murray Head side here, called "She Was Perfection." This is where the Beatles met the jangle of the mind expansionist tendencies of the Byrds. For those who don't already know, Murray Head, despite being a rather failed pop/rock singer, played the lead role in the first London production of Jesus Chris Superstar. The Shocking Blue, whose big hit was "Venus," contribute a killer tune called "Send Me a Postcard," with some completely crazy fuzz guitar. And "Where Is My Mind?," by someone or something called Pesky Gee, is just plain over the acid-drenched top! This one may not have sold as much as Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, but it packs plenty of quality in its 25 cuts. ~ Thom Jurek
