Synopsis
A Wall Street Journal Top 10 Crucial Home & Design Book for Beginners A Library Journal Best Book of the Year An Amazon Best Book of the Month Christophe Pourny learned the art of furniture restoration in his father's atelier in the South of France. In this, his first book, he teaches readers everything they need to know about the provenance and history of furniture, as well as how to restore, update, and care for their furniture--from antiques to midcentury pieces, family heirlooms or funky flea-market finds. The heart of the book is an overview of Pourny's favorite techniques--ceruse, vernis anglais ,and water gilding, among many others--with full-color step-by-step photographs to ensure that readers can easily replicate each refinishing technique at home. Pourny brings these techniques to life with a chapter devoted to real-world refinishing projects, from a veneered table to an ebonized desk, a gilt frame to a painted northern European hutch. Rounding out this comprehensive guide is care and maintenance information, including how to properly clean leather, polish hardware, fix a broken leg, and replace felt pads, as well as recipes to make your own wax, shellac, varnish, stain, and more., A Wall Street Journal Top 10 Crucial Home & Design Book for Beginners A Library Journal Best Book of the Year An Amazon Best Book of the Month Christophe Pourny learned the art of furniture restoration in his father's atelier in the South of France. Rounding out this comprehensive guide is care and maintenance information, including how to properly clean leather, polish hardware, fix a broken leg, and replace felt pads, as well as recipes to make your own wax, shellac, varnish, stain, and more., One part Joy of Cooking , one part Domino magazine, this is the all-new furniture bible. Unlike the snoozy (and generally black-and-white) how-to-refinish-your-furniture workbooks currently on the market, this is a stealth technical manual embedded in the context of a seductive, full-color coffee-table book. The heart of the book is an accessible primer on Christophe's favorite techniques--ceruse, vernis anglais , water gilding--with step-by-step how-tos for achieving them yourself. Readers will learn about wax finishes, oil finishes, and lacquers, as well as effects to create with paint, metal, and gilding. Examples are shown on a wide range of furniture--a table, a desk, a hutch, a plant stand, a simple chest of drawers. Readers will learn about furniture construction, from medieval times to the present; how to identify types of wood; and how to distinguish a Louis XIV chair from a Louis XV one. They will come away knowing how to care for their leather and properly clean hardware; fix a broken leg and replace felt pads; distinguish a real antique from a fake; and make their own polishes at home.

Product exactly as described in good shape with no damage beyond expected mild wear. All parts were included as mentioned by seller. It was well packaged and wrapped when shipped, which I appreciate. Good communication and shipping was as expected. The price was perfect. My son played with this exact set somewhere and he’s wanted on like it ever since. He is going to be so excited when he gets them. This is a great seller. Very impressed with everything. Great work! Thank you

These brand new hiking/work boots were a great value as described by the seller. They were shipped promptly and packaged quite well. The pair of boots were well made and a great value for the money. However, my feet didn't fit even though the description said wide width. The seller was quite gracious in quickly and kindly sending a refund label in order for them to be shipped back. This is how ebay is supposed to work. Very happy with the transaction even though the boots didn't fit. AAAA++++

I am so please with my purchase! Very fast shipping. The shades were packaged with care and my fragile items arrived intact (thankfully as the my FedEx delivery person was not so careful). The shades were exactly as described, I had broken one of my shades on a vintage chandelier and I now have a perfect match. Value was excellent. Thank you so much!!! I love sellers like Southern Resource on ebay.
