Patience is a virtue of the surviving characters of LYING IN WAIT, a thriller that captures lurid relationships in a rundown Hollywood mansion. Occupying the mansion is Babee (Thomas Newton), the son of a deceased entertainer, who returns to this boyhood home of his to paint. Other than the decaying structure of the home, little has changed; next door is even still the home of the same girl (Vanessa Dorman) Babee grew up with. Babee entertains a married couple, Vera and Keith (Rutger Hauer and Virginia Madsen), for a short time before Keith is nearly killed in a car crash. When Keith comes around he is confined to a wheelchair. This does not stop him from avenging those who wronged him with the help of Babee, who meanwhile is now involved sexually with Vera. A surprising ending, a sultry Virginia Madsen striptease, and unusual killings involving wheelchair bumps make this thriller an exceptional straight-to-video entry.
