The product stays fresh despite opening and closing the lid a lot of times. I do recommend that you take out the amount of product you want to use and close the lid right away. This helps to keep it fresh and workable. I've restored 1967 cabinet doors and it works great. I just applied primer and paint over the patch on the doors and they look brand new.
