Synopsis
Not a tale of firefights and blood, this book should be read by anyone who lived through the Vietnam era that was not directly involved and did not go to Vietnam. It provides a sense of what went through their minds, the conflicts and confusion and related fears. In a self-deprecating style, the author comes of age, examining these emotions and the guilts of being assigned to a secure area, of leaving a job before it was completed, and abandoning faithful Vietnamese friends. It should be read by anyone who cares about those who went and who want to understand more about them and their era. Forty photos provide a flavor of the year and the place. RAPID CITY JOURNAL 8-21-05 SAYS "MORE THAN OTHER STORIES ABOUT VIETNAM, THIS ONE IS REFLECTIVE, AND THANKFULLY SO. MUEHLBERG SORTS THROUGH THE MORASS TO FIND ENOUGH GOOD TO GIVE HIMSELF AND READERS THE FEELING THAT VIETNAM WAS NOT ENTIRELY AN INSTANCE OF MINDLESS OBLIVION THAT IT SOMETIMES SEEMS." ***Meridian/Boise area may contact author for copies (605-389-1341).***, "REMF" is an acronym and condescending term for a rear area support soldier and commonly used by front line troops, well known by those who have served in the military. The literal translation may be offensive to some but it is a part of the jargon our our men in uniform. This book confronts some of the seedier sides of a military occupation that are as much a part of any conflict as the explosions and flying bullets. It completes the total picture of war. "REMF" is an attempt to portray this side as clearly and as straight forward as possible. Hopefully the work provides some humor while it looks into the emotions of a young man in a rear position. I was a naive and provincial North Dakota farmboy. This is a memoir of getting sent to a country at war in 1969 and my thoughts and impressions and experiences of the year I spent there. It's a tale of the sixties, Vietnam, friends both American and Vietnamese, and loss of innocence.Over 40 photos provide a flavor of the time, the town, and the ties.

- v***v (2057)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaAlthough this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate.
- 2***j (113)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaI've ordered several items from this vendor now and they've always been what they were advertised as. This was no exception. Both discs were in great shape as well as their jewel cases. Delivery is good, packaging is simple but effective for what you're paying and I haven't had any get damaged. Will keep buying from this vendor because of the results so far and good prices, too.
