It does so through an in-depth study of Uganda's refugee model: unlike other refugee-hosting countries, it allows refugees the right to work and freedom of movement. Through both human stories and one of the first quantitative datasets on the economic lives of refugees, the book shows that refugees have complex and varied economic lives, often being highly entrepreneurial and connected to the global economy. The implications are far-reaching: once we understand refugees' economic lives we can begin to radically rethink refugee assistance in more sustainable ways.
