Woodrow Wilson said, 'A nation which does not know what it was yesterday, does not know what it is today, nor what it is trying to do.' The same can be said of the church. In this powerful collection of essays and interviews by and with Christian leaders, fifty years of American evangelical thinking about the gospel and creation is laid out for our inspection. Here we are reintroduced to ourselves--yesterday and today. And in the midst we are challenged to think better about what it is we are trying to do--for ourselves, our planet, and our children. Perspective is a powerful thing. Read the book. --Sandra Richter, Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies, Westmont College; author of Stewards of Eden: What Scripture Says about the Environment Stewards of the Earth provides a unique historical perspective on the shifting and often uncomfortable relationship between evangelicals and environmental issues. As environmental challenges become more acute and this conversation intensifies, it is tempting to forget our history. Although I have been involved in the creation care movement for nearly thirty years, there is much here that I had never seen and much that gives context for where we are today. The book also includes some classic articles, such as Dr. Paul Brand's amazing 'A Handful of Mud,' which was one of my inspirations for getting involved in issues of soil and water. Environmental stewardship has been a topic of discussion within the evangelical church for far longer than I knew and has always been an issue of both passion and pushback. This book helps to fill in much of that history. --Scott Sabin, chief executive officer, Plant With Purpose This poignant edited volume, complete with a powerful introduction by evangelical luminary Loren Wilkinson, is hands-down one of the best one-stop-shop volumes on evangelical thinking about creation care over the last few decades. The fruit of this volume will grow for a time to come. As an evangelical myself who has struggled to walk faithfully with Christ in our polarized world, books such as this give me abounding hope. The way of Jesus is so needed in our moment of crisis. This book dares to ask: are we ready to follow? --A. J. Swoboda, assistant professor of Bible, theology, and world Christianity, Bushnell University; coauthor of Introducing Evangelical Ecotheology: Foundations in Scripture, Theology, History, and Praxis This is an extraordinarily useful collection of essays that will be an important resource for anyone interested in how evangelical Christians over the last fifty years have thought about their responsibilities for God's creation and the diverse ways they have responded to the environmental movement and related cultural trends. There is much in these essays to celebrate and also much to disagree with and even lament. I pray that Christians may learn from both the insights and the mistakes preserved here to become all the more faithful in the next fifty years in how we witness to Christ, love our neighbors, and care for God's good creation. --Jonathan A. Moo, Edward B. Lindaman Endowed Chair, professor of New Testament and environmental studies, Whitworth University; coauthor of Creation Care: A Biblical Theology of the Natural World Stewardship of creation is central to the image of God, and in the modern world one of our toughest ethical dilemmas is how to manage humanity's environmental impact. Stewards of the Earth is both a fascinating window into fifty years of evangelicalism groping with this problem and an invitation to fresh thinking about this important dilemma. --Greg Forster, director, Oikonomia Network; visiting assistant professor of faith and culture, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; author of Economics: A Student's Guide and coeditor of Human Flourishing: Economic Wisdom for a Fruitful Christian Vision of the Good Life, Woodrow Wilson said, ''A nation which does not know what it was yesterday, does not know what it is today, nor what it is trying to do.'' Synopsis
Fifty years of evangelical thought on creation care. Evangelicals have a complex relationship with environmentalism. Some lament the church's apparent disinterest in humanity's negative impact upon the earth. Others denounce environmentalism as a distraction from the church's mission. In the face of polarization over the issue, how should evangelicals steward creation well? Stewards of the Earth collects five decades of articles from Christianity Today that display the diversity and development of evangelical perspectives on creation care. Some articles address the concerns evangelicals have over cooperating with the broader environmentalist movement or lay out positive ways to navigate or overcome these hesitations. Other articles present constructive approaches to creation care. Readers will gain a nuanced view of evangelical thought over the decades. With a new introduction by Loren Wilkinson and contributions from writers like Bill McKibben, Ronald Sider, Leslie Leyland Fields, and Andy Crouch, these essays preserve the wisdom of the past to provide insight for the future., Fifty years of evangelical thought on creation care. ?Evangelicals have a complex relationship with environmentalism. The book was in exactly the condition described in the listing. I generally don’t buy books that only have one photo. It was shipped quickly. The book arrived via Amazon box truck and was in Amazon packaging, so I assume this seller also lists books on Amazon. I wish I had known this as I am trying to not shop Amazon. I just think other buyers might want to know this. Still, the book was packed with care in a bubble envelope. Shipping costs were reasonable, but there was no tracking available.

This item was reported mailed within 3 days of order. However, I did not receive it. I waited 4 days past expected delivery date before notifying seller. Seller reported that the item must have been list in the mail, and I received an apology and a refund the next day. Disappointed in but receiving the book, but I would definitely purchase from this seller again
