NotesThis collection represents Ata's family legacy of songs shared in family devotions as the Reverend ChuHing traveled around the Hawaiian islands with his grandson Ata in tow. The album was recorded in five afternoon sessions. Each master vocal track was done live in a single take, giving a feel of immediacy and genuine prayer for salvation. Perhaps that is why we have received over the years many communications from around the world from people who were touched by this recording; several have reported that it was a requested deathbed companion. It has been used in a beachside congregation and several prisons around the country, eliciting a sense of spiritual salvation from everyone who hears it. This is the album that Hawaiian great Ata Damasco wanted to record for years, choosing us to produce it and thus launching our record label. He plays every instrument, including a battered 100-year-old upright bass held together with screws, glue and tape and strung with weed-whip chord. It continues to be a coveted addition for fans of both Hawaiian and gospel music 13 years after it's release.
