Ellen was awarded a prestigious honor by the Shepherd Express, a weekly arts & entertainment newspaper in Milwaukee, WI. In their 'Best of Milwaukee 2006' reader's choice awards, Ellen walked away with 'BEST JAZZ ARTIST' honors for the 3rd consecutive year. Along with top the Best Jazz Artist nod, her debut CD release 'Pure Imagination' also garnered top honors at the 'BEST LOCAL CD' in 2004. Ellen was also thrilled to receive her first (and second) WAMI nominations in 2005: 'Best Traditional Jazz Artist' and in 2005 & 2006 'Female Vocalist of the Year.' (**WAMI is the Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Ellen's exuberance and vivacity make her one of the most sought after vocalists in the region and she soon hopes to extend that to East Coast cities, where she is beginning to get more gigs. Featured performances at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals in Europe; the Rocky Mountain Jazz Festival in Banff, Canada; and the Monterey Jazz Festival Sea Cruise in Los Angeles highlight Ellen's collegiate singing career with VoicesIowa - a top notch pro-sounding vocal group directed by vocal jazz guru, Phil Mattson. As a jazz vocalist, her instrumental peers often describe Ellen as 'the musician's vocalist.' Not the typical 'chick singer' Ellen composes, arranges, and collaborates with other local writers/musicians to stay at the top of her game. Ellen is a regular at local Milwaukee jazz clubs like Caroline's, Panache and The Grove Restaurant. Ellen can also be found singing with various top musicians at public and private functions.
