Este libro cuenta con una serie de ensayos que han sido publicados por más de veinte años. El objetivo de darlos a conocer está netamente ligado a plantear y exponer el pensamiento de los chicanos a cerca de su origen y de su apego a la tierra, la cual una parte de ella fue ocupada por los norteamericanos. Tras el surgimiento del movimiento chicano de los años sesenta y setenta, nombraron a este lugar como Aztlán, en reconocimiento a los aztecas, con esto ellos reivindicaban sus raíces y el orgullo pleno de ser parte de esa cultura ancestral.
