But it provides a space for cats to put their feet on to really get into the bowl. And it collects the crumbs as well, which is nice for me and for him if he finishes his plate. Stainless steel, cats may not like that on their tongue. Same goes for ceramic, they may not like that on their tongue. I think my cat has no problems with their whiskers touching the bowl.
