Washington Irving's story RIP VAN WINKLE comes to life in this episode of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre. Francis Ford Coppola directs and Harry Dean Stanton stars as the lovable loafer Rip Van Winkle. One day, when trying to avoid his shrewish wife, Wilma (Talia Shire), Rip goes hunting in the woods, where he meets a band of strangers. Rip and the motley crew drink a mysterious beer that makes Rip fall asleep for the next twenty years. Rip wakes up to find his town has changed, the world is different, and his family and friends have moved on.
