Maybe in an area of the country that's not very bright, or a room that doesn't face the sun. However, I live in Southern California and my room faces the setting sun so it's REALLY bright and gets REALLY hot in the summer. I'd say in my particular application, they probably block 40 to maybe 50 percent. We'll just have to see how well they do in the summer.

They seem to block out most of the light, just as stated in the description. The fabric is a medium weight and feels very nice. I’m very pleased overall with the quality and colour.
