ReviewsArt Book Review - Jan 2024 Subtitled Expressive painting through the seasons and translated from a German original, this is a simple guide to painting trees, flowers and landscapes in a more or less abstract way. Having established that, there isn't a huge amount more to say. Each exercise (we can hardly call them demonstrations) occupies a single spread, with basic instructions, including a list of materials, facing the completed original. The medium is watercolour and, while you'll get an approximate order of working, the methods of application and handling of detail are up to you. Some images veer more towards abstraction than others, adding a pleasant variety to the book, which is nothing if not colourful. If this is a style that appeals to you and you're more interested in ideas than having your hand held every step of the way, you should find this more than a little worthwhile.
