They aren't the big balloon cartoon kind, they're like the usual small decorative light bulbs - but they shine a whole lot brighter. Bought the ones without the wall plug, they are LED so the outer plastic shell is just for looks, not necessary since there are no filaments inside. Some might think this is a bad thing, especially if you want to mount them in your bathroom, and it boasts 2 plugs like in my older house... just buy a plug socket adapter - extra sockets!
