Synopsis
This book is written in the belief that a proper understanding of Greek civilization in antiquity requires some knowledge of its background of seafaring. A knowledge of nautical practice is required for an understanding of some passages of Greek poetry and prose writing, and for a correct interpretation of numerous historical events. This is an attempt at a thorough study of the evidence, both literary and archaeological. Modern reference books tend to repeat the misconceptions of nineteenth-century scholars. In contrast, Mr Morrison and Mr Williams have written a scholarly and scientific study of the subject. They collect in this volume evidence for Greek oared ships between 900 and 322 BC. The book is primarily a catalogue of decorated pottery and quotations from literature and from naval inventories. The pottery is illustrated by diagrams and plates; and the quotations are given in full., This book is written in the belief that a proper understanding of Greek civilization in antiquity requires some knowledge of its background of seafaring. A knowledge of nautical practice is required for an understanding of some passages of Greek poetry and prose writing. - g***a (142)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaExcellent seller. Great communication. Thoughtfully packed and shipped. I ordered a number of books from this seller. They all came individually wrapped in paper and bubble wrap, then bubble wrapped again. They use colored tape so it has the appearance of ribbon tied around each book. All this showed how much they care about their products, their customers and their business. I gave them a want list of other subjects that interest me. Would definitely buy from them again!Respuesta de furrowed_brow_books- Votos a los que ha respondido el vendedor furrowed_brow_books.- Votos a los que ha respondido el vendedor furrowed_brow_books.Thanks so much for your eye for detail and gracious and lavish praise!

It was carefully wrapped and shipped in a timely fashion and the price for a discontinued book was good-1/2 what I had found it for at two other places.Saints and Sisterhood: The Lives of Forty-Eight Holy Women (#176047627493)
