Ein andauernder wirtschaftlicher Ruckgang im Laufe des 15. Jahrhunderts liess sich vor allem fur Koln feststellen.3) Uber die anderen rheinischen und die suderseeischen Stadte lasst sich ein Urteil nicht abgeben. Unter den westfalischen Stadten ist der wirtschaftliche Ruckgang Dortmunds, der auch ein Zuruckweichen seiner Kaufmannschaft aus dem Auslandsgeschaft nach sich zog, unverkennbar. Und dies gilt noch mehr fur Soest. Unter den sachsischen Stadten erhob Goslar 1428 bewegliche Klage, dass sein Bergbau, die Grundlage seines Wohlstands, ganzlich verfallen sei, dass es keinen Handel habe und nicht an wichtigen Handelsstrassen liege mit grossem Durchgangsverkehr, aus dem andere Stadte Vorteile zogen.4) Nicht wahrscheinlich ist es, dass die Verminderung der Einwohnerzahl Hamburgs, der auch eine solche in den Einnahmen der Stadt entsprach,5) mit e
