The difference is the screen my first monitor build went on a 2013 2k imac screen. This on went on a 2010 2k iMac screen. Even with the brightness controls on the computer and on the screen controller board tuned all the way up the screen is darker than a standard iMac 2010. So I. I’ve included a photo of laptop with monitor both at 100% brightness.

My first display controller would not work, so I messaged the seller and told him about my problem. He responded very fast and tried to help me. Once we figured out that the problem is on the display controller, he just sent me a new one, for free. The new controller arrived and works perfectly. Amazing how smooth the communication and organization went, even though we were on the other side of the globe.
