Rachmaninov: The Piano Concertos, The Symphonies, Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini, Variations, Préludes, Moments musicaux (7CD) Box set - A sumptuous Rachmaninov collection built around the piano concertos - interpreted by Nikolai Lugansky ("Rachmaninov just doesn't get any better than this," declared the Guardian's on hearing him in Concerto No. 2) - and the symphonies, performed by André Previn and the London Symphony Orchestra, a team celebrated in the Russian Romantic repertoire. Gramophone judged Previn's advocacy of the Symphony No. 2 "among his most enduring contributions to our musical life".
