Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS is a 2D side-scrolling game produced by Konami Digital Entertainment and developed by WayForward Technologies. As the eleventh installment in the Contra series, it’s a direct sequel for the original Contra video games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super NES, with a gameplay style that will feel familiar to fans of its precursors. Contra 4 had a release date of November 13, 2007 in North America and celebrated the original Contra’s 20th anniversary with high ratings. Set in 2638, the events of Contra 4 take place two years after those of Contra III: The Alien Wars, which is now available for Nintendo 3DS. The plot opens on a peaceful Earth, but a threat hovers on the horizon in the form of Black Viper, an alien entity similar to Red Falcon. The Earth Federation deploys Contra Force commandos to the Galuga archipelago in search of Black Viper, with the intent to destroy both the entity and its various minions. Bill Rizer and Lance Bean are joined by mercenaries Mad Dog and Scorpion as they battle their way across a raging landscape full of robots, mutants, and aliens. Contra 4 returns to the gameplay model of the original Contra, trading in the fixed weapon configurations of later games for the familiar power-up icons. By picking up these icons, players can get new weapons, including a grappling hook accessory that allows characters to interact with certain parts of the overhead environment. The hook is new to the Contra games and gives players more options on how they approach a given battle, whether it’s to avoid an incoming attack or move to a more strategic area. Collect multiple power-ups, and you can create new weapon versions that let you deal with a battle more effectively. The game takes advantage of the Nintendo DS setup by utilizing both screens, with the grappling hook making it possible for characters to travel from one screen to another. Several stages shift the players’ perspective to behind the character’s back, producing a look and feel reminiscent of the ’3D view’ stages available in the original Contra. In these areas, the action all takes place in the top screen, while a map of the stage and power-ups is shown on the bottom. The majority of the game is composed of the Arcade Mode, which you can play through by yourself or with a friend. There are three available difficulty levels—easy, normal, and hard—and each one has its own unique endings. Easy mode is most accessible to newcomers, but it prevents players from entering the last two stages. Normal and hard both let you play through to the end, though they have different endings once you’ve defeated the final stage. By completing the Arcade Mode, you unlock the Challenge Mode, where you can go through the stages again while fighting to complete certain tasks. Contra 4 for the Nintendo DS is a must-have for fans of the Contra games, especially those who enjoyed the original video game that started the series. It brings back the fast-paced side-scrolling action from the first Contra while introducing a variety of new content, giving fans plenty to play through as they reenter a familiar world.

    Fast shipping, was shipped in sturdy box. Every thing was as pictured and as described. Shipping charged was $8.55. I calculated 0-8 ounces for Zone 6 to be between $4.52 and $4.80. More often than not, I think shipping charges on eBay are extremely high for the majority of everything I have ever bought on this site. I don’t mean to single this seller out as the problem is site wide.
