'The book is able to provide a thorough theoreotical and empirical analysis of how attempts to increase developing countries' openness may impinge on their domestic policy space, impairing their ability to be able to adopt effective policies for their development. Synopsis
Some of the world's most prominent development thinkers address the following question in this volume: to what extent are the rules and economic forces that govern the global economy shrinking the 'policy space' that developing countries can draw from in order to construct policies to raise the standards of living of their people? They then analyse the possibly considerable room for manoeuvre that developing countries still have at their disposal despite global macro-economic realities, IMF/World Bank policies, and the trade rules regime of the World Trade Organization. Finally, the authors suggest actual policies that could be put in place in order to preserve existing spaces for development and to expand the tools developing countries can deploy., This book examines how far the economic forces and rules that govern the global economy are shrinking the "policy space" available to developing countries in constructing policies to raise living standards. The contributors analyze what room for movement developing countries still have, despite global macro-economic realities, IMF/World Bank policies, and the trade rules regime of the World Trade Organization. They suggest the policies that could be put in place to strengthen developing countries.

The book was shipped very quickly and arrived exceptionally well-packaged. It was essentially as described in the listing--no surprise there. I would highly recommend this seller for a very positive experience. This book (Vol. 4) represents one more in my quest to have a complete set of all 15. Still looking for Vols. 5 and 14 in as good a shape as your Vol 4. If you can help me there, shoot me an e-mail Larry-BOS. Thanks
