Players help a band of warriors on a quest to help the king's twin daughters safely reach a magic academy in Has-Been Heroes. Gamers take control of three characters as they move along three side-scrolling planes and engage in turn-based combat with a variety of enemies. Encounters are random and players must strategically combine physical attacks and magic spells to defeat foes, but death is a frequent occurrence. Gamers start over when they die, but they are rewarded with some of the more than 200 items and 100 spells, and as they progress they unlock new story elements and characters.
