Cornelia, a mystery story writer decides to rent a spooky house known as the Oaks from John Fleming an employee at the town's bank. Her servants have heard that a serial killer called The Bat is operating in the area and they all decide to leave town. When the local bank manager reports a million dollars missing from the bank he and John Fleming his employee become prime suspects. John talks to the local doctor and confesses to the theft. He then kills the doctor to keep his secret safe... Now who is trying to break into the Oaks; The Bat or someone looking for the missing money?
