Kendo Rage puts players in the role of Jo, a young girl equipped with a powerful sword and a special dash attack. The sword can frequently be upgraded to act as a shield, shoot a stream of fire, or unleash stinging butterfly attacks. As Jo makes her way across the countryside, creatures, swordsmen, and others attack, and Jo must hack and slash her way past them. The bosses are challenging, sometimes to the point of frustration, but the standard enemies are easily defeated.
