Synopsis
This highly practical x-ray atlas presents superb images of common injuries in children. Provides guidance on the radiological interpretation of films, the incidence of fractures at various ages, appropriate films for suspected injuries, and diagnostic pitfalls due to radiographic appearances. The emphasis is on the ways in which children's injuries differ from those of adults., A highly practical, inexpensive x-ray atlas which covers the common injuries in children presenting to the A & E department. It provides guidance on: * radiological interpretation of films, with an atlas layout * the incidence of fractures at different ages * appropriate films for suspected injuries * diagnostic pitfalls due to radiographic appearances In addition, the inclusion of brief technical notes ensure safe practice, i.e. the correct positioning and handling of an injured child; correct requests for x-rays from the radiographers. If a child is mismanaged the outcome can be extremely serious and even result in permanent disability. Highlights the way in which children's injuries differ from adults A superb selection of images collected by the authors over a period of 15 years Emphasis on safe practice and enables the reader to avoid film duplication and misinterpretation Lists of commom and uncommon injuries at differenct ages will be provided An "immediate action" paragraph is included for each fracture (i) as a guide to whether and how urgently expert advice is needed and (ii) so parents can be informed as to the likely treatment
