"The spare dialogue rings true, and the full-page oil paintings have a quiet realism reminiscent of Edward Hopper in scenes of Tim's close multiracial family indoors and the Can Man alone outside. A humanizing story that reaches beyond easy messages." -- Booklist "A modern story of kindness and its rewards, with warm and modern illustrations." -- ForeWord Magazine "Heartwarming and faith-inspiring. . . . encourages a full perception of other human conditions." -- Midwest Book Review "At first glance, the reader may think this will be a story about how to deal with the homeless. . . .this picture book is much more. Synopsis
To earn money, a young boy decides to collect and redeem empty soft drink cans, but ends up giving away his money to help a local homeless man., To earn money, a young boy decides to collect and redeem empty soft drink cans, but ends up giving away his money to help a local homeless man. Tim's birthday is just a week away, and more than anything he wants a skateboard. But money is tight, and Tim knows his family cannot afford to buy him a board. As Tim ponders how he might earn money for a skateboard, he hears The Can Man down the street collecting empty soft drink cans. The clang of the cans in the homeless man's cart gives Tim an idea. He will collect cans too, and cash them in for the redemption money. By the end of the week, Tim has almost reached his goal-until a couple of chance encounters with The Can Man change everything. Told with honesty and respect, this timely story shines a perceptive light on current social concerns. Readers will be encouraged to think beyond themselves and celebrate the simple acts of kindness and sharing that make a difference in people's lives., Tim's birthday is just a week away, and more than anything he wants a skateboard. - v***v (2060)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaAlthough this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate.
- 2***j (113)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaI've ordered several items from this vendor now and they've always been what they were advertised as. This was no exception. Both discs were in great shape as well as their jewel cases. Delivery is good, packaging is simple but effective for what you're paying and I haven't had any get damaged. Will keep buying from this vendor because of the results so far and good prices, too.
