I could not connect my older Garmin GPS's (USB-A) (x2) to the USB-C even when using a HUB. The USB-C to A adapter did work, but with a trick. If I had the adapter and Garmin plugged in prior to Powering up the Powerbook, and waited for the Garmin to fully go into the USB connection mode prior to logging into the Powerbook everything worked fine.
