La question des besoins des apprenants est strategique a une epoque d'internationalisation des echanges ou la formation continue aux langues se specialise. La recherche menee aupres de salaries en formation a l'anglais vise a mettre en oeuvre un dispositif d'explicitation des besoins qui permette de definir le niveau de ces apprenants et qui constitue un processus regulateur tout au long de la formation. En s'appuyant sur un ensemble de courants de pensee et theories relevant de la didactique et sur les modeles d'identification des besoins analyses, des instruments ont ete concus et utilises dans le cadre de la mise en oeuvre du dispositif, qui passe par une evaluation de la competence communicative. La recherche, inscrite dans une perspective d'ingenierie, a permis de valider ces instruments ainsi que la methodologie adoptee, faisant de l'explicitation des besoins un outil de dialogue pedagogique entre l'entreprise, l'apprenant, le formateur et l'organisme de formation. Il ressort que la place centrale donnee a l'apprenant, acteur de sa propre formation, a un impact positif sur l'apprentissage.
