THE FOUNTAIN is split into three different time periods, beginning in the 16th century, when a conquistador named Tomas strives to find the Tree of Life. The second part of the story finds a character travelling through outer space and dreaming of a woman named Izzi. The third part is set in the present day and is about a doctor named Tommy, who is married to the terminally ill Izzi. <br> Academy Award Winner Natalie Portman as stunningly talented but dangerously unstable New York City ballet dancer Nina Sayers enters into this proactive psychological thriller that exhilarated audiences and critics as it became the number one film of the year. Pushed to breaking point by her driven artistic director, Vincent Cassel amplifying the intense battle of wills as he decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre, Winona Ryder for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake. Nina discovers she has competition with a talented and ambitious new arrival Lily, Mila Kunis, who seems intent on edging her out of the spotlight as reality starts to slip away.
