I'm spraying balls of cotton wool made from a pleat of cotton wool (cheaper to buy and make whatever size balls I want) as advised by another person using a peppermint spray repellant - rather than spray directly on the areas eg skirting boards. Hopefully the peppermint smell will act as a deterrent. Too early to say if successful. But well worth trying. I use trap and release traps and release these field mice to a woodland.

It also smells strong but pleasant. Hopefully it deters the rats effectively. Royal mail also automatically try to deliver while am out.

Rats have stopped coming in through fence when sprayed every couple of nights and it doesn't affect the hedgehogs.
