Synopsis
In Light and Fire, author Nancy Pfaff shares the spiritual biography of Danny E. Morris, cofounder of the John Wesley Great Experiment. Morris, now retired after forty-six years in the United Methodist ministry, has challenged thousands of people to put God first in their lives. Morris created the Living Prayer Center, the Upper Room Program Unit which he led for sixteen years, and the Academy for Spiritual Formation, for which he has served as executive director for twenty years. He helped initiate the Walk to Emmaus movement, began a United Methodist monastery, and developed the Prayerful Discernment Network for "A New Kind of Church," which involves representatives from more than six hundred churches. Pfaff traces Morris's development as a remarkable Christian leader from his childhood connection with God to his continuing efforts to help individuals discern God's will in their lives and experience the healing power of humor. The foreword by Maxie Dunnam details his deep friendship with Morris and how it shaped each man's career, while interviews with Morris's closest family and friends provide new insight into his personal faith journey. The appendix features a list of questions for each chapter that invite readers to reflect on their own spiritual journeys. Ultimately, Light and Fire presents a powerful message of how countless lives were changed through one man's faith in God and his commitment to live through the light of Jesus' teachings into the transforming fire of the Holy Spirit.
