Notes
Music I would say is probably the only thing that has held it all together for me. When I have been at the top or at the bottom. The one consistency has been the sounds in my head. I have always had a wide variety of what I liked. And probably more than once controlled my thoughts. By the sounds I placed in my head at the start of the day. I started playing guitar when I was an early teenager. I always remember seeing my Grandfathers guitar hanging on the wall. Maybe it was one of the triggers that started the whole thing. For about 20 years off and on I would pick it up then set it back down. But never really being able to get focused on what it was for or what it meant in my life. Then one day it started to fall into place for me. I had set a goal to learn just 5 cover songs all the way through. Once I did that things started to flow. I was tired of meeting people who played guitar but could only do the first verse of Stairway To Heaven or Smoke on The Water. Then that was the end of it. I was thinking why don't I just learn a couple songs all the way through. And at this point singing them was just more to help me remember where I was. I figured somebody sitting around the campfire would have a better voice than me. And then they could just take over and I could focus on playing. Sometimes this worked and sometimes it didn't. The biggest downfall was the way I played made it difficult for others to sing. I tend to add an extra strum or play it a little different than the original. So as time went on I found myself just doing both. So five songs turned into 10 then 10 into 20. And I just kept building more songs up. What I guess I never realized was I was molding something else in the process. Somewhere along the way and I'm not sure where I decided to write a song. I think most of this started with improv songs. This continued for a long time. I would just sit down hit record and start playing and singing. Then I decided to try and write down the words so I could play it more than once. I tried this for a while. It didn't take long and I had a couple songs. But I never played them live or really did anything with them. So more time went by on the same path. Then I decided one day with some encouragement from friends. To add Drums and Bass to a couple of my songs. I didn't realize how off beat I was until I did this. So new frustrations arose and more walls were put up. But I continued to move fwd. I took a couple songs that I had recorded in my studio and a couple I had recorded in Korea. And started adding to them a little at a time. I was really surprised at the out come I was getting. I was frustrated with my playing but encouraged that it was moving forward. So in the spring of 2009 I finally decided to play one of my songs live. Well actually I played 2 of them live and the response was enough for me to open more doors. I went into the studio where I had been working and layed down a couple new songs. The result and sound was amazing compared to where I was 6 months before. So I decided to do this for the rest of the songs. I had been writing the whole time. But never planned on using any of that material for the album. The album was more about capturing the sounds from before and adding in some friends here and there. But the new sounds gave me new ideas. And from there it was all forward movement. I have spent for the most part of the last 20 years traveling around the globe. In that time I have heard and seen musically many different things. I have tried to take my thoughts and emotions and put them to words. Which sometimes I feel makes it difficult to write what I would call a fun song. So if your looking for that bubble gum top 40 manufactured by corporate America sound "IT AIN'T ME" I lean on my God given senses that were given to me for inspiration. Thanks for all your support and hope you hear something you like. And I hope to produce even better sounds in the futer.
