It’s been followed by three successful sequels – Dead Island Riptide, Escape Dead Island and Dead Island 2 – available on a variety of platforms, and movies and novelizations are in the works as well. The zombie apocalypse genre has been a staple of pop culture since George A. Romero’s landmark film, “Night of the Living Dead” back in 1968. It hit white-hot popularity in 2010 with the TV series, “The Walking Dead,” followed one year later by Dead Island, which brought the horror, excitement and survivalist vibe to the world of console games. Zombie survival stories depict a world gone mad as the dead rise from the grave, forming mindless cannibalistic hordes that cause the collapse of civilization.
