This text reflects 20 years' experience in the ecology movement. In the 1970s, Girardet argued in favour of returning to the land, and went on to practise what he preached by living and working on a hill farm in South Wales. He has continued campaigning, writing and making documentary films on green issues, work which has taken him to places as diverse as Brazil, East Germany, Siberia and Africa. Yet the diversity of places and peoples reflects a large whole; the role of humans on Earth. In the 1990s we are at last conscious of the destructive power of humanity - the author argues that this can be reversed and that the tide can be turned.
