Simple ways of using our existing transport technologies in new and counter intuitive ways to significantly reduce human energy requirements and at the same time make electricity generation more reliable. The methods described in this book describe ways of harnessing the vast amounts of thermal energy that our transport system generates and dumps into the environment. Harnessing this waste thermal energy by modifying our vehicles, trains and ships slightly can significantly reduce human energy consumption and carbon emissions, and will have a significant benefit to both the environment and the economy. This book explains to the reader what energy is, and how our transport systems can be used differently to heat our buildings and generate our electricity. Key themes in this book are Zero Waste Docked Mode (ZWDM), Zero Waste Transit Mode (ZWTM) and Significant Shape Changing Vehicles (SSCV). The book explores how engines used in transport vehicles, that have a fuel efficiency of only 40%, can be considered to be part of a wider system that includes buildings and electricity generation, and shows how these 40% fuel efficient engines can be used to make the whole system 100% energy efficient. This has major implications in terms of significant reductions in fossil fuel use and carbon emissions, and significant improvements in the reliability of our electricity generation systems. The book also debunks claims that electric vehicles are zero emission vehicles, explores how the current trend of increasing the numbers of electric vehicles connecting to the Grid for charging is putting greater demands on electricity generation that already struggles to cope sometimes. The book presents new ideas that use only existing and commonplace technology in ways that have never been done before to solve many of these issues.
