Using this shampoo (non-foaming) prevents a "foam volcano" from forming inside the Rainbow vacuum. My furniture (chairs and sofas) were not particularly dirty, but the results were a noticeable improvement. I spot cleaned first with 1 capful per quart (of water), then did the entire surfaces with a solution of 1 capful per gallon. Each capful is just over 4 teaspoons. I used warm tap water and was pleased with the results.
