"The Spirit Connection¿Back to Cassadaga" takes a new look at the town where a certain group of 'gifted' Spiritualists called 'mediums' communicate with the spirit world. Described in detail are accounts of spirit entities materializing, levitating objects and humans, healings and messages from the dead, the mysteries of Spiritualism, and attempts by skeptics to expose mediums as fakes. The tiny Central Florida town of Cassadaga ¿ home of the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Campmeeting Association ¿ has changed very little since its heyday in the 1920s. From that time, to the 1950s the notoriety of Cassadaga as a Spiritualist Center had spread worldwide, attracting celebrity-status lecturers, 'readers¿ and clients along with a never-ending stream of ordinary citizens seeking messages, advice, encouragement and answers from departed loved-ones. Public interest in the little-understood religion of Spiritualism and psychic readings has had its ups and downs over the years. The late 1970s and early 1980s saw a flurry of activity in Cassadaga with cars, bearing tags from various parts of Florida and other states, lining the streets ¿ people walking the narrow roads ¿ and groups arriving by the bus-load. Appointment books for 'readings¿ were full and visitors who had not scheduled readings were left to while-away their wait under a shady oak, on a park bench or wandering the streets. Today, the Camp still flourishes with about 45 or more certified mediums.
