Reviews
'Beautifully written, superbly plotted and with a brilliant twist at the end' - Daily Mail 'What makes French Rhapsody one of the must-reads of the moment is not just its off-the-wall humour, but its deep sense of melancholy. If it wasnt so funny, youd weep for the roads not taken' - Le Figaro 'The novel has Laurains signature charm, but with the added edge of greater engagement with contemporary France' - Sunday Times 'A tale of dashed dreams, lost love and rediscovered hope that is also an incisive state-of-the-nation snapshot' - The Lady

Synopsis
Discontented middle-aged doctor Alain Massoulier has received a life-changing letter - thirty-three years too late. Lost in the Paris postal system for decades, it offers a recording contract to Alain's old band The Holograms, which split up long ago. Now, overcome by nostalgia, Alain decides to track down his old bandmates - including the alluring singer he secretly loved. But in a world where everything and everyone has changed, where will his quest take him?, A letter delivered 30 years late sets a middle-aged Parisian doctor off on a picaresque, nostalgic exploration of youthful dreams and the path not taken A "must-read. . . If it wasn't so funny, you'd weep for the roads not taken" -- Le Figaro "Beautifully written, superbly plotted and with a brilliant twist at the end" -- Daily Mail Middle-aged doctor Alain Massoulier has received a life-changing letter--33 years too late. Lost in the Paris postal system for decades, the letter from Polydor, dated 1983, offers a recording contract to The Holograms, the band in which a much younger Alain played lead guitar. Back then The Holograms had believed in their cutting-edge sound. However, the music industry remained indifferent, and eventually the band split up, each going their own way. Alain is overcome by nostalgia, and is tempted to track down the members of the group. But in a world where everything and everyone has changed . . . where will his quest take him? Rocketing around Paris and shifting perspective from Alain to his unfaithful wife, his former band members, and the people in their lives, this funny, charming story is a love letter to the City of Light and to 1980s pop. As the consequences of reading the letter begin to unfold, Alain wonders whether there's still time for The Holograms to produce a hit - and whether their music might change the world.

- e***a (272)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaOrdered from USA and arrived to me in UK about 10 days later. Book appropriately packaged and mostly as described. Was missing the cd as listed but communication with the seller was friendly and polite if not a little confusing - partial refunds are only offered after you start the formal eBay return request process, they aren't capable of giving refunds after simple messaging to customer service. All in all though, great value and a positive transaction. Would interact again 👍
- e***- (123)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Últimos 6 mesesCompra verificadaUnfortunately I received a damaged book, the item and the package both were damaged and it was clearly evident its appearance that it happened during transit. The seller was very understanding and gave me a full refund for the damaged book, though it was no fault of their own. Other than the damage, the book was as described, the quality and condition aside from the damaged spot was like new. The cost of the book was reasonable. I would definitely purchase from the seller again.
- h***r (190)- Votos emitidos por el comprador.Mes pasadoCompra verificadaHave ordered books a number of times from ThriftBooks, via eBay, over the years, and the transactions have always been super-smooth. It was the same way this time. Sturdy packaging for the shipments. Condition / appearance of books was even better than described. As always, an excellent value, particularly with the free shipping as well as the promotional discount for ordering three or more books at a time. Love it!
